The 5th Annual Sookmyung Citizenship Fair award-winning exhibition was held in the Multi-Purpose Hall in the Administration Building from November 12 to 15.

 

Sookmyung Citizenship Fair is an exhibition for students who have taken the required course ‘Global Citizenship and Leadership’. The purpose of the contest is to improve Sookmyung students’ citizenship awareness through reflecting and finding solutions to issues as global citizens.

This year 19 teams, including the 4 Grand, 10 Excellence, and 5 Nomination Awards were selected to win the prize. The teams studied issues from four different fields of study such as environment, society, government, media, and human rights. Their research were exhitibited as forms of PPT or video clips which fostered the interest of global-citizen issues of Sookmyung students.

 

On the 15th, the last day of the exhibition, an awards ceremony was held at the Shinhan Lobby located in the Centennial Hall. A conference for presenting the Grand Awards-winning team was held along with the main award ceremony. Students who were interviewed said that they had a chance to learn more about issues that were not discussed in school projects. Student Kim Ji Eun (majoring in Applied Physics, 18) from the Captain Curie team who won the grand prize with their work of Big Data, Fire of the 21st Century’, said that she did not imagine that her team would actually win the competition and she was very surprised when they announced the winner. She also mentioned that she could widen the viewpoint of the world through the Global Citizens Education and Leadership’ class that she took.

On the day of the awards ceremony, a popularity award was also rewarded. This award was voted on the site by audiences who came to see the exhibition. The lucky winner was the Sari team whose work dealt with ‘Laboratory Animals Inside Your Makeup’. Student Lee Ji Sun (majoring in Social Psychology, 17) said that she was able to study more than she did in class while preparing for the exhibition. Student Jo Hye Min (majoring in Social Psychology, 17) who was also on the same team, stated that it was a great chance for them to think about applying things to real-life, rather than studying certain issues only superficially.
