In association with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and its premier consulting partner Megazone Cloud, our university built the first cloud-based learning management system (LMS) among Korean universities.

LMS is a system that can manage overall academic affairs online such as students’ grades and attendance. It is a solution not only used by educational institutions such as universities, but also widely used by corporations and public institutions. 

By utilizing the LMS called the “Snowboard,” our school provides support toward learning management for students and class management for professors, and furthermore, the system is even used for plagiarism detection, class video streaming service, and as a contents authoring tool. However, there have been some limitations on providing high-quality service in the past due to the aging hardware, vulnerability to temporary server overload, and so on.

To build a cloud-based LMS, our university joined hands with Amazon Web Services and Megazone Cloud.

The newly introduced system succeeded in building a highly stable and reliable architecture based on AWS cloud service. The Officials from the Office of Information & Communications Technology explained, “We were also able to facilitate infrastructure operation and reduce costs at the same time through the large-scale collaboration with AWS, premier consulting partner Megazone Cloud, and other solution providers such as Xinics and Ubion for the first time among Korean universities.” The trial application of the upgraded LMS began during the last winter semester and it is to be fully utilized starting this semester.

Through the reorganization of the system, our university is anticipating ▲ easier sharing of lecture contents and reduced lecture preparation time, ▲ revitalization of real-time communication team between professors and students, ▲ acceleration of self-directed learning through diverse learning processes, ▲ provision of customized learning channels optimized to individual learning styles, and more.

The Head of General Affairs Byeong-Mo Chang announced, “Our space for learning will expand dramatically such as students being able to study by accessing the learning management system anywhere and at anytime and professors being able to easily create lecture contents anywhere to share them without limitations of formatting,” and “We will further expand our cooperation with AWS in order to provide educational services catered to the changes in this age of the 4th industrial revolution.”
