Sookmyung Women’s University Department of Consumer Economics and Research Institution of Asian Women’s International ODA team was selected as the ‘2019 Global Education Support Project (Research Director: Prof. Kyeong Young Ok from Consumer Economics)’ hosted by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea as a public contest.

The Global Education Support Project is one of the International Education Cooperation Projects the government is actively supporting. This project is pushing ahead the co-development of education in developing countries in order to achieve sustainable advance in Asia and Africa as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It consists of two parts: 1) demand survey and 2) educational cooperation project that verifies the justification of ODA, a localized education considering the demands in each region.

Sookmyung Women’s University department of Consumer Economics was selected in demand survey field with “survey on creating educational environment for consumer economics to achieve Vietnam’s sustainable consumer citizenship cultivation.” This project features preparatory work for ‘2020 International Cooperation Initiative University Support Project’. Through this demand survey, the department is seeking to officially carry out the educational cooperation project.

In this demand survey project, Institution of Asian Women takes a role in joining Sookmyung Women’s University and Vietnam’s major universities. In addition, Institution of Asian Women is planning to actively push the enhanced research and educational cooperation of specialized superb resources between foreign research, and educational institution as well as universities with that of Sookmyung Women’s University.

Kyeong Young Ok, professor of Consumer Economics, expressed her thoughts by saying, “I expect that this year’s demand survey will be a successful precedent for next year’s application in ‘2020 International Cooperation Initiative University Support Project’. Moreover, I hope it could contribute to our school’s globalization and strengthen its international capacity.”
